Catherine Amanda Mischbaugh (1900-1979)

Catherine Amanda Mischbaugh was the daughter of  Oswald Mischbaugh and Amanda Mischbaugh.  Her father immigrated from Germany and her mother was born in Pennsylvania. She was born on 15 May 1900 in Ben Avon, Pennsylvania and died 19 October 19 in 1979 in Weiser, Washington County, Idaho.  She died from complications of a stroke.  She was buried in Bishop, California.  She was married to William Norvil Berry.

Catherine was not listed in the 1900 U. S. Federal Census because she was not born until May 1900.  She is listed in the 1910 U.S. Federal Census as Katherine A. MissbachCatherine and was living with her parents in Ben Avon Borough, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.  Between 1910 and 1917, it appears that Catherine and her family had moved from Pennsylvania to Arizona.  In the 1920 U. S. Federal Census, Catherine is shown living with her mother, Amanda Dillon (not sure of spelling), her step-father, James L. Dillon (not sure of spelling), and her brother William.  We have been unable to determine what happened to Oswald Mischbaugh.  Catherine's mother is listed as a hotel keeper in the 1920 U. S. Federal Census which explains why there are so many other individuals listed as living in the same home as Catherine and her family.

it appears that Helen and Fred had moved to Los Angeles, California.  In August 27, 1927, they had moved to Saugus, California.  The 1930 U. S. Census shows them living in Antelope, Los Angeles County, California on Flower Street where they were renting.  On 20 December 1940, they are living in Bishop, Inyo County, California, where Helen remained until her death in 1969.  Her last known address was 406 E. Line Street, Bishop, California.

We are not sure what happened between 1910 and 1920 but it appears that Oswald is no longer listed.  We are not sure if he passed away or not and have not been able to locate a death certificate.  Amanda appears in the 1920 U. S. Census located in Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona with her son and daughter William and Katherine.  It appears that she married James L. Dillon. She was a hotel keeper.

We cannot find any records on Amanda or James after the 1920 census.  We did find records of her sister, Jennie Mischbaugh in Arizona in 1930 and her children William and Katherine were still living in Arizona in 1930.  Her daughter Helen had moved to California.

The conflict of a young lover with the parents of his inamorata, which began in a shooting scrape and continued in a Justice Court wrangle, was suddenly terminated yesterday morning by the elopement of Amanda Misbaugh, of West Bellevue, with Oswald Misbaugh, her cousin. No one knows but the young people which Gretna Green was the destination.
