Roland Halle was the son of Joseph Hall and Mary Firth. He was born on 9 January 1817 in Old Kent Road, Surrey, England and died around July 1894 in Reg Dist: Rochford, Essex, England. He married Mary Ann Cosins. Mary Ann was born around 1820 in Strand, Middlesex, England. Her father's name was James Cosins according to the 1861 England Census.

On the 1861 England Census, Roland is shown as living at the Forks Hills School House. He is school master and Mary is a school mistress. James Cosins, Mary's father appears to be living with them as well as their 9 children.
In 1871, Roland was still a school master, living with seven of his children. The other individuals were scholars who were lodging with them.
In 1881, Roland was living with his wife and daughter and one individual who was a scholar lodging with them.
In 1891, Roland was living with his wife and granddaughter, Christine Halle.
